Yeah, they're re-making the series.
I should be excited... and I will be (a little), if they get William Daniels to voice KITT again. But they've made KITT a Ford Mustang. WTF?!?
STOOPID LINK
Note the iMac keyboard on the PASSENGER side. Guess there'll have to be someone sitting over there to use it, eh? Not gay enough? The car has freakin' RACING STRIPES. LAAAAAAME. Still not gay enough? How about that huge freaking RICER WING on the rear end?
You can't tell me that Ford's little media blitz didn't have anything to do with this. Now that Mike Rowe is their spokesman, he drives a Ford truck on Dirty Jobs and half the show's commercials are for Ford. Maybe Ford should start making better cars instead of shoving the crappy ones down our throats in order to improve sales... but what do I know? I'm just a schlub consumer.
This show better be written well... and I mean REALLY well...
EDIT: Oh, they just updated the page with show info... looks like I was right:

"Knight Rider" Cast Justin Bruening, Deanna Russo, Sydney Tamiia Poitier and Bruce Davison Participate at the Unveiling Event Showcasing the Customized KITT Ford Mustang to Be Featured in Movie Dave Bartis ("Heist," "The O.C.") and Doug Liman ("Mr. and Mrs. Smith," "The Bourne Identity") to Serve as Executive Producers; David Hasselhoff, the Star of the Original "Knight Rider" Series, Appears as a Special Guest Star in His Original Role as Michael Knight; NBC Also Forms Partnership with Ford Motor Company That Provides for Unique Content Opportunity |
UGH, LAAAAAME
Quote: |
Will Arnett (NBC's "30 Rock," "Blades of Glory") will provide the voice of KITT. |
*sigh*... Like I said, it better be written REALLY well.

As the original story resumes, the new KITT (Knight Industries Three Thousand) is absolutely the coolest car ever created: its supercomputer capable of hacking almost any system; its weapons systems efficient; and its body -- thanks to its creator's work and nanotechnology -- is capable of actually shifting shape and color. |
In other words, nothing is new except KITT is a now a Transformer. Lovely. _________________

Ok with all the info you posted it makes me not want to watch it. It seems they butchered a cult classic to pieces. |

I liked the original KR. I liked KR2K. I like Viper and I'll at least watch the pilot to see if its worth anything. Thus far it seems pretty lame.
I've always said that if you're going to do a re-make it needs to be better than the original but still similar. This just seems like a whole new series with the same title of Knight Rider. Again, I'll hold my judgment until I actually see it. You can't judge a book by its cover ya know. _________________

I always said if they decided to remake the series, that they kept it based in the 80s. It sounds to me like they're trying to make a serious drama-adventure type show instead of the tongue-in-cheek comedy/action show the original was. _________________

That's because that's what's selling today. That's why Star Trek has had problems...there's just no room for cheese in television right now, unless it's drama-cheese, of course.
Shows like KR, Star Trek, A-Team, etc. can all come back and be great again, but they have to wait for the television climate to be ready for that type of programming again. Aside from die hard fans (like many of us are) most people's tastes change in a cyclical nature.
Right now, the show would need to be overly dramatic (ala Heroes, LOST, Grey's Anatomy, etc) to even stand a chance of passing 1 season. Even Chuck has very dramatic moments to balance out its lightheartedness...something you really never saw in most of those older series.
Seems to me they're trying to stylize Knight Rider to fit the times, instead of simply waiting until television interest is suited for Knight Rider again. |

"...Provides for Unique Content Opportunity" = someone at NBC sleeping with Ford execs for $$$ (figuratively speaking)

Ok, so I was thinking how I would right a new Knight Rider series pilot. So briefly, before it comes out...here's how I'd do it.
Micheal Knight, returns to retirement and a new life. KIFT kicks butt for awhile with Shawn and Maddock from KR2K.
20 years later starts our story. Micheal Knight has taken over FFLAG after Maddock and Shawn and KITT (KIFT model) were killed in an attempt to stop bad guy X (meaning fill in some bad guy). Micheal, over the last few years has taken FFLAG underground after the death's of Maddock, Shawn & KITT. Over the last few years he's training an apprentice. FFLAG becomes a secret Military outfit & finally, a new car is made. The Knight Industries Millennium Model or KIMM. KIMM is played by a female. KIMM is a know it all bitch of a machine who slowly learns to accept her male driver, Joe Schmo (X name).
With this story, Micheal Knight would still be on the series but in a devon type role. KITT could even stay alive through the attack. He could be thrown in a normal vehicle (maybe even the 57 Chevy again) but be out of action and just be apart of the show with his attitude. I'd love to see a female car get offended by KITT.
So thats the basic premise. Maybe if the new Knight Rider fails...they'd try my idea. lol. _________________

I like that idea a lot, Adam. Probably my only qualm would be having Hasselhoff return for more than a cameo. Not that I don't like the guy, but I think a new Knight Rider would need to separate a bit from the Hoff to really go in the new direction it would need to. |

So there's one ray of sunshine in this whole nightmare -- KNIGHTmare? lolz.
Will Arnett was supposed to voice KITT for the series, but it turns out he's the voice of GMC trucks. Since KITT is now a Ford Muckstang, they decided it was a conflict of interest to have him do the voice, and the new voice is Val Kilmer.
This is good news (to me at least) because I didn't like the way Arnett was voicing the character. Too gruff and angry. So far, I like what I've heard of Kilmer's voiceovers. He adds some personality.
You can hear Val voicing KITT in this clip from the Tonight Show:
