Okay, it rocks...hardcore, even.

I am set up on the Shugoth server. There are really only two American servers, so I figured I might as well join the one I knew people on (SiH is on that server...though I dunno if I'll join them). I created two characters, a marksman and a summoner, and played both for a few levels.

Both rock, in very different ways. The summoner's minons are absolute pwnage. What's more, my summoner already found 3 awesome weapons (by level 3). My marksman, on the other hand, is either a lucky sonofabitch, or loot is very easy to come by. He has found 4 rare items (including a relic), and 2 legendary items, one of which is a rocket-launcher that rips up!

In short...great game. It looks like the characters you make in multiplayer cannot port to single and vice-versa. That makes sense, though, when you consider how easily hacked Diablo II was. I can't wait to try some group instancing.

Only problem: I've been getting disconnected from the server. I can chalk that up to either this hotel's lousy network, or the fact that it's still release day, and the server I joined was the first one up. Anywho, definitely looks like an entertaining time, and a worthy game to share the same timeframe as TF2, as we all wait for SC2.

Blademaster, Nalrie

And really Shugoth is the only US server. The other went down shortly after launch. And yes items drop like mad. I got a ton of Legendary, and rare items but alas, they are for other classes. I only found one green item that I could use and I think it was a pair of gloves. Also the servers seem to have some serious lag issues that need to be worked out, either by adding more servers or something. I never got disconnected once but it sucks being melee and getting hit when i see nothing around.

And I tried to add you to my friends list Josh but it wouldn't let me, i guess you have to be online when I add you.

lag issues could be due to it being a brand new game and everyone is still trying it out... which is why I'll probably wait a month or so before I try it. I'm sick of swords-and-shields games though, so I may not even play it if it doesn't look appealing...

The swords and shields are strictly in a Star-Wars sense of the words. There are only 2 melee classes, anyway, the other four are more up your ally.

The game still has some of the standard stereotypes, i.e. tank, nuker, healer, etc., but the take on all of them is a very nice change of pace from the fantasy worlds we're used to.

Yesterday I crashed twice in the same place...not a server crash either, the game totally shut down. I was in a tunnel in town, and every time I tried to turn left it would happen. Finally stopped after a few tries, tho.

Just weird bugs that will get worked out soon. It was actually a pretty smooth release for an online game.

I'm actually in the SiH guild now. Guildchat is so horribly inconvenient though, that I hardly use it. Future patches will probably help with that.

Ventrilo is going to be the prime comm. method in Hellgate.

Okay, after the initial hype has worn off, here's what we've got with Hellgate:

Pros:
- Solid gameplay
- Interesting and fun classes
- GREAT weapons, variations on weapons, and mods.
- Good customizability
- Fairly good holiday extras.

Cons:
- Memory dumps: Nearly every playing session of mine ends in one.
- Always lag, no matter your connection speed.
- Some rubber-banding in cities.
- Longest loading screens ever...puts the PS2 to shame.
- NO LAN PLAY...omg, what were they thinking????
- Chat window is irritating, so much so that I've been in SiH since game release, and I've yet to talk to a single guildie over ingame chat!
- They effectively make you pay to participate in beta...I only paid for one month, thank goodness. I still feel swindled.

In short, much like SWG, HG:L has all the promise in the world, but was obviously not ready for release, and really lacking some key features.

My suggestion is not to bother buying it until or unless they make a LAN mode available. We would have TONS of fun playing this game over LAN at a party someday, but until then, it's not that great.

Thats why we love you Damin. You are a guinie pig when it comes to new games. I can't afford to go out & buy everything brand new (only stuff I trust, like Valve, Blizzard, THQ, etc). This is why, at the Orange LAN, that I said I'd wait a month to see what you thought. I'm patting myself on the back for that decision now.

Hope on Steam some more & lets do some KEEEELIN!

Bought Call of Duty 4, and i love it. Mulitplayer is setup kinda like BF2 where you gain xp per kill and rank up. Awesome play tons of servers and the singleplayer is good so far. graphics are awesome, and I think its the best CoD to date. CoD 4 was a great buy.

And yes Hellgate I haven't played much especially since CoD4 came out this past week. Hellgate still needs a lot of work like Damin said, but my game never crashes it just freezes the computer up. Like I tried sending a tell to Josh and then clicked on the weapons/armor vendor and it froze. So I said screw it and loaded up CoD4.

Plus I see they will be releasing CoD4 on steam soon, so I hope I am able to import my version to Steam so I can use the steam friends list. Because if I have to buy the game on steam just to do that, I won't.
