Okay, so now that all the wonder and awe of "holy crap I'm getting married" is turning into normalcy, this next thought occurred to me:
"Holy Crap Batman! Weddings are expensive"
So I thought I would take advantage of this fabulous resource we call the HOZ and post this question.
What did you already married folk do to control or cut corners on wedding costs? Any and all tips are appreciated. _________________

I'm not married, but I've been around so many wedding plans over the years that a few have rubbed off on me.
You may be able to save a little by using her home church...rather than finding one, or using a different venue.
If you have someone in the family capable of making the food, that's a place I hear of many people cutting corners. They buy all the food, and family members help them get it done.
Opt for ambiance CD music for the reception, or have a friend/family member DJ, as opposed to hiring one...they be expensive!
Look for tux shops in a small town, and I wouldn't suggest going in around Prom time...suits are cheaper than tux's, btw.
Flowers = expensive! If you can plan decorations w/o using them, all the better.
In the end, though, it all boils down to one huge question...what does SHE want. Yeah, I'm sure you knew that already, but you'd definitely have to start there.
BTW, trained doves are expensive, in case you were wondering. |

You need Sarah to call Ry. Our wedding was CHEAP!
We had no flowers, we had ivy, CHEAP! Ry was friends with a guy who went to the church at Kenyon, CHEAP! Our clothes were hand made by family so they were, CHEAP! The food was catered & the wedding cake was discounted. The DJ was G, so he was, CHEAP! The reception hall wasn't too bad since its Mt. Vernon. So the most expensive things were the food, the reception hall, the Hummer 2 LIMO (which rocked hardkore!). So yeah, you can do things cheap but the more traditional you go the more expensive it is. Time of year will effect cost as well.
Seriously, have Sarah call Ry & stay out of the decision making as MUCH as possible Todd. Just let her vent to you when she gets stressed out about it and be sure to offer to help with the wedding planning. Most likely she won't ask too much of you.
That brings me to your Bachelor Party, heh heh! LAN party with LAN babes?! We need LAN babes......lol. Who's your best man? I want to know what he's cookin' up for ya! (Hopefully not strippers IN the cake, of course, d00g might like that, HA!) _________________

Yeah, professional pictures are way over priced nowadays, especially with the quality you can get with a decent digital camera. We paid $500 for pictures (anyone remember the PICTURE NAZI???!!!??? SHNEL!!! SHNEL!!!!).
Just have 2 people who know what they are doing take the pics. Review them on the spot to make sure they are great, and then have a bunch blown-up and printed at Walmart. I mean, seriously, I wish we would have had such cameras available when we got married, b/c that's wayyyyyyy too much $$$$. |
