Okay, so I'm running into some gaming issues. Basically, no online game runs well on my network. I chalked it up originally to the crappy network I was on, but I'm on a different network now (RR wireless in the same room as my computers!) and I'm still having issues. Mind you, they're not quite the same issues, but issues nonetheless.
First off, the game I see the most problem with is Warcraft 3. It will freeze for a second or two at a time intermittently througout the game. Other than that, everything runs really well, but it's getting me killed since it only freezes for me (not everyone in the game). This leads me to believe it's a problem with my upload/dl. I played at d00g's house, Jared's house, and the DDT and had none of these problems, all with the same equipment - so I don't think it's my computer(s). Also, I get the same problems in XP and Vista.
So I did some research on common problems, specifically with WC3, and I've done the following:
- Set specific permissions for the WC3.exe in my firewall
- Opened the TCP port for WC3 (6112) and the next 7 ports in sequence (b/c a blizzard admin said to...not sure why) on my desktop.
- Set port range forwarding on my router to 6112-6119 for my desktop's IP.
- Enabled QoS, setting WC3's port to the highest priority while running.
- Enabled WFMM support, even though I'm not sure I have devices that support it
And now I'm plumb out of ideas. Any clue what could cause intermittent lag like that, yet not hinder overall performance? I only ever notice issues when gaming or using streaming video. Streaming audio/radio works fine, and my downloads are very fast still. |

Sounds like an issue you need to bring up w/ your service provider, especially since it's happening on both of your computers (When did you get the new laptop?) & because it happens in more games than just WC3...
If none of the fixes you listed helped any, then it sounds like your ISP needs to do some troubleshooting! _________________
