So I went out the other day and saw "Nacho Libre" and to sum it up in one word..."disappointing" doesn't quite cover it.

Jack Black can be hit or miss sometimes, but I had a good feeling about this movie initially. He's usually a clever guy who's willing to stoop to slapstick from time to time. In "Nacho Libre", this was not the case, as the entire movie was simple-minded slapstick and stupid noises, with nearly no wit to give the humor depth.

Not only this, but the pace of the movie was sloooow, nearly excruciatingly so. The development of Nacho was almost undetectable until the requisite acceptance of the hot nun. Don't get me wrong, the story was fine, and there were some truly funny moments, but the execution was poor. A better director could have maybe made this into a much better movie.

To top it all off, I was hoping to see a bunch of high flying Luchador action in the movie, given the setting for the movie. Alas, the wrestling action in the movie wasn't all that far removed from WWE-style stuff. In fact, some matches were VERY WWE in their style (such as the final match).

Altogether, I am still a fan of Black, but I have to give this movie a huge steaming pile of 4 out of 10.

*-soon to be appearing on Xanga...but I can't get there from this office computer, and I felt like writing. Booyah!

I liked Nacho. I laughed a lot & thought it was done very well. Funnier than Napolean too. I've come to expect my movie tastes to be different than Damin's though (his fav movie IS Shindler's List, lol)
