Man, really gotta disagree with Josh.
Though that looks playable, futuristic first-person combat games SUCK. I mean, they always start off well enough, and look cool, but when it comes right down to it, the lack of realism always kills them.
The appeal of the BF series is how realistic everything is, from the way the guns work to the difficulty of driving/riding and gunning/piloting...I just don't see that this one will be in any way better than 1942 or BF2. It looks like there will be lots of oddball stuff, like invisible units and such, which look sweet, but ultimately will be a HUGE balancing problem.
Modern day combat is fairly balanced (real world), however, when you start creating hovering gunships...good luck making any ground troop realistically capable of taking one down. Can anyone say Star Wars Battlefront? |

One more thing...the folks at dice are pretty much even worse than SOE. They just want your money, and don't care about the gameplay.
This is why something like this would come out so soon after the expansion for BF:2, which incidentally tanked in the ratings, and almost immediately followed the premiere of BF:2.
They have a penchant for "improving" their games by making them crappy, so the consumer will turn around and buy the next one, hoping to return them to the realm of greatness the pre-expansion games brought.
Hope that made sense. |
