Bah.

The good news is that Atlantis will continue like SG-1 in direct-to-DVD movies since the first 2 SG-1 DVDs have done much better than expected. Can't say I'm really surprised, though... the one thing I've always felt about Atlantis is that they just can't seem to nail down a storyline. Their main storyline has always seemed to jump around from the Wraith to the Replicators (who have nothing to do with the Replicators from SG-1, go fig), to the Genii, to whoever else they come up with. Add to that the fact that they keep adding/dropping characters and I don't think fans have ever felt quite as comfortable with the series as they did with SG-1. SG-1 jumped the shark a number of times, especially when O'Neill and Hammond were replaced, but the show had so much momentum already that it was successful. I don't think Atlantis has ever gotten that level of a foothold.

Hopefully, the DVDs will shed some more light on the Ancients and resolve the Wraith situation. This season is supposed to end in a cliffhanger which will be finished by the DVD(s), just like SG-1.

The bad news is that Sci-Fi has NOTHING to generate ratings on Friday nights anymore, other than Doctor Who. Galactica will be over by this time next year, too. The really good Sci-Fi is all fading away, I guess. Sanctuary looks to be interesting, but I dunno anything about it yet other than Amanda Tapping is in it. Eureka is good and funny with just enough campiness, but it's not exactly pushing the boundaries like great sci-fi does. Other than those three, there's really nothing left on Sci-Fi to watch. Bad for their business, bad for us as sci-fi fans.

Although, ECW had their best show yet this week... but that's totally different.

Bad news indeed, but not all that suprising. Atlantis never really had that "it" factor, just like you said. It's solid programming, but nothing all that new. In fact, most of their stories are just rehashed SG1 stuff...so yeah...

Dr. Who is still awesome, and I could see a Eureka move to Friday nights, and the night will still be good. Eureka probably had its best episode ever this week (amazingly good for such a campy show), so I think SciFi will be fine.

this blows but hey, the DVD movies have been freakin' great. So I'm kool with 2 of those a year. Honestly, the line about them being surprised at how well the DVD movies did, says it all. TV people are freakin' clueless. They still grab their ratings from stupid little boxes that they put in random people's houses instead of including people with cable boxes / DVRs. Its the way of the future & the future is now! They need a way to record who is recording/watching shows on DVRs because nearly everyone I know watches TV like that now, so ratings aren't a good way to measure.

Also, you guys who watch the DVD movies & don't go buy them aren't going to help them continue being made. Just so ya know.

Yes, this is sad. Question has anyone seen the Dr.Who spin-off?

Which one? Torchwood or The Sarah Jane Adventures?

I've seen both. Neither are as good as Doctor Who but both are alright.

I have the first 2 seasons on my computer and I've watched the first three episodes of season 1 so far. It's really not bad, and they're dropping lots of subtle little hints about future storylines, the way Doctor Who does.

BTW it's Doctor Who, not Dr. Who... I discovered the "hard way" that purists really don't like to see it abbreviated! Smile

Indeed, although he didn't find out the hard way though me but it does look dumb as Dr. instead of Doctor. (btw, I met the Doctor!!!!)
