It wasn't too horrible, but I had the oddest time this morning, checking out at the local Acme grocery store (no bull, that's really the name...). This is the first time in SIX trips there that I've ever had the cashier ask to see my Acme card...of course, I don't have one.
Well...didn't.
When I tell the lady I don't have one, she gets a horrified look on her face like I just told her that I was barbequeing her baby for my saint bernard. She looks around kinda paniky-like, and promptly escorts me to the service counter so I can sign up for one. She finished checking my groceries out and wheels the cart to me at the service desk.
Minor crisis averted, I'm satisfied with the knowledge that I got my groceries, got a card, saved some money, and all without making too much of a scene...
...wrong
For several minutes, the cashier speaks loudly to the people around, asking them if they think the card is worth it, and expressing disbelief that I didn't have one yet. Then she yells accross the room that the lady in her lane just saved $21.00! Then she finds another person, and yelled to me how much that shopper managed to save. The card is worth it!
It took great restraint not to throw one of my 59-cent cans of dolphin-safe tuna at her head.
So, slightly embarrasing...funny as hell...but in retrospect, I saved about $20.00 (!)
On about $70.00 worth of groceries (!!)
So I guess I should be thanking her, eh? |

Yeah really. Kroger just raised the price of everything up $.50 then came out with the Kroger card which helps you save that $.50 so that you're not making or losing anything with the card.
Sounds like we need an ACME.
We have a COSTCO now. I've not been there yet but I hear they are uber. Wheel Sea.
My question is when they lady asked you if you wanted one, didn't you just say yes? If you did, why the scene? _________________

She asked him if he HAD one...when he said he didn't, she dragged him to the customer service counter to get one (without asking if he wanted one, apparently) and THEN made the scene.
I've never had somebody react like THAT but every once in a while I get the ones who say "do you want a card?" I say no and they say "are you sure?" I'm like "uhmm lemmethinkYESnowringmeupsoIcanleavegroceryhumanFILTH!!!" _________________

Meh, it's not all funhappytimeswithsprinklesandsunshine. Acme is WAY more expensive than Kroger's, not taking either's cards into account. Even though I saved way more than I would at Kroger...I probably didn't come away with a comparable level of groceries as a $70 Kroger run. |

Yes, I can safely say of all the big chain grocery store fascist swine, Giant Eagle is the worst of the worst.
Ooooh, for every $50 you spend you can save 10% on gasoline...that you buy from us! Wow...what a deal.
